The incredible thing about these next 15 days is something that only Manuel, our guide, can tell us. He has been leading this adventure for 8 years, which is an understatement. 15 days in the Arctic, sailing among icebergs, ascending icy mountains, under the polar cold.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":748,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/fundaciondingonatura.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Comienza-Desafio-Artico-Aeropuerto-2023-07-12-at-07.34.41-1-1024x614.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-748\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>All this is a great challenge, but courage is a trait that all the members of the expedition share, as we have all had to face cancer. Courage and struggle is a constant in our lives and that is why this challenge is something that is so close to our hearts.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In addition, we have trained thoroughly for this for months, to be strong inside and out.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>However, no one prepares you for the impact of seeing a glacier in person for the first time.<br>Today was that moment, and the truth is that we were all left with our mouths wide open. The camp, accessible only by boat, is located in one of the most inhospitable areas of the world, accessible only to a few. Following the established route plan, we visited some of the most spectacular glaciers in this area, known for its landscapes, protected fjords and impressive icebergs.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":760,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/fundaciondingonatura.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Desafio-Artico-Frente-del-glaciar-Qooqqut-07-14-at-16.42.00-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-760\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Along this path of spectacular mountains of ice we are not only facing the cold and the wind, but we are also sailing among the great fjords of the area and experiencing firsthand the melting of the Arctic caused by climate change.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We have also been able to approach the front of the Qooqqut glacier, located in the fjord that bears the same name and has a large number of icebergs among which we have been able to navigate thanks to the team of experts accompanying us among which are Manuel Calvo, leader of the expedition; Manuel Calvo Ariza, mountain guide or Carmen Calvo, monitor. We travel by zodiac, a light boat that allows us to move through the ice. During our crossing we are enjoying our discovery of a large part of the native fauna: whales, seals, foxes or arctic hares are some of the animals we have been able to see. Although it is difficult, we do not give up in our efforts and we hope to see at some point the impressive polar bear that also inhabits these lands\u2026 Two days ago the locals have told us that they saw one in the area, so we do not lose hope\u2026<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":774,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/fundaciondingonatura.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Exploracion-del-segundo-glaciar-2023-07-18-at-15.57.00-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-774\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Even though the weather is not accompanying us during our travels, because it is raining and very cold, the attitude is still intact and we are already heading to our next destination: Narsaq, one of the most inhabited villages in southern Greenland, with about 1500 inhabitants, known for its immense plain and also the seals and whales that haunt the area. To get there, we will sail among icebergs and icy waters.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:video {\"id\":772} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/fundaciondingonatura.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Rumbo-a-Narsaq-Video-2023-07-19-at-19.45.41.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:video -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Although the trip has been incredible, we are sad to see the consequences that climate change is having in places like Greenland. The retreat of the glaciers and melting ice is more than noticeable, especially when compared to photos from other years.
